Since ancient times is considered as an ally of our health. One of its many benefits is the fact that it is a natural antitussive.

It is honey.

Its healing action is attributed to its rich content of phenolic compounds. The phenolic compounds (flavonoids and non-flavonoids) that are present in honey increase its antioxidant capacity, due to their ability to reduce the formation of free radicals. Antioxidants have generally been linked to a reduced risk of heart attack, stroke, and certain cancers.

Honey is also rich in glucose and fructose, while it contains proteins, vitamins, organic acids, amino acids, enzymes, and trace elements (calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, zinc).

The antitussive properties of honey were confirmed by researchers at the Pennsylvania State College of Medicine after a research with children who took 1-2 tablespoons of honey half an hour before bedtime. Honey was more effective against cough than various other cough syrups.
